This January, our community comes together for the 2026 MLK 10 Days of Service and Holiday Celebration— a community-wide tribute honoring the life, legacy, and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Day I (Saturday, 10 Jan 26): “Honor the Dream. Clean the Path.”

Event/Activity:  MLK Parkway Ceremony and Cleanup

Description: An uplifting kickoff that blends reflection and action. Community members gather at the MLK Monument for a short ceremony, then join forces to clean MLK Parkway — showing that service, unity, and pride start right where we live.

Day II (Sunday, 11 Jan 26): “One Faith. One Voice. One Dream”

Event/Activity:  A Moment of Faith for the Dream

Location: Local Churches and places of worship

Description:  Each House of Worship is invited to include a 15-minute MLK Moment within their respective services, honoring Dr. King’s legacy through prayer, reflection, scripture, music, or brief remarks. This shared moment of faith unites congregations across Sierra Vista in remembrance, spiritual renewal, and a collective recommitment to justice, service, and the Beloved Community.

 

Day III (Monday, 12 Jan 26): “Inspiring Excellence, Empowering Futures” 

Event/Activity:  AZ Prep Open House  

Description: The open house reinforces Dr. King’s belief in the transformative power of youth development. Guests will meet dedicated educators, explore academic and extracurricular programs and gain insight into how AZ Prep equips our youth with the skills and confidence needed to thrive.

Day IV (Tuesday, 13 Jan 26): “A Day of Possibility”

Event/Activity:  An Individual Day of Service

Description: On this day, every member of our community is invited to honor Dr. King through a personal act of service. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, donating to a local charity, picking up litter, mentoring a young person, supporting a small business, or simply extending kindness where it’s needed most—each individual effort becomes part of a larger, shared impact.

Day V (Wednesday, 14 Jan 26): “Step Forward. Walk Together”

Event/Activity:  Walking Wednesday with the Mayor 

Description: A community walk through Sierra Vista with the Mayor to promote health, connection, and civic pride — reminding us that progress happens when we move together.

Location: Sierra Vista - Plaza by Brake Masters and west to Barnetts Towing

Day VI (Thursday, 15 Jan 26): “A Voice to the Dream”

Event/Activity:  MLK Poetry Night

Description: An intimate night of spoken word, poetry, and creative expression. Local artists and community members lift their voices to honor Dr. King’s legacy through art, rhythm, and truth.

Day VII  (Friday, 16 Jan 26): “Ignite Your Mind Be Part of the Shift”

Event/Activity:  MLK Conversation on Civil Rights, Political Action and Relationships

Description:  A powerful evening reflecting on Dr. King’s life, the Civil Rights Movement, and the ongoing journey toward justice — hosted in partnership with SWABS and community historians.

Day VIII (Saturday, 17 Jan 26): “Healthy Community. Strong Community”

Event/Activity:  MLK Community Health and Wellness Fair

Description:  A full-day wellness experience with free screenings, health education, mental-health resources, a kids zone, fitness activities, and a blood drive — empowering families to take charge of their health. Sickle Cell Fighters. Share your strength. Sign up - give blood.

Day IX (Sunday, 18 Jan 26): “United in Spirit. Committed to Service”

Event/Activity:  MLK Interfaith Worship Service

Description: An interfaith multigenerational worship gathering that brings churches and families together to recharge spiritually and recommit to building the Beloved Community.  Guest Preacher: Dr. Warren H. Stewart Sr., Senior Pastor Emeritus, First Institutional Baptist Church.

Day X (Monday, 19 Jan 26 - MLK Holiday:  MLK Unity March “Marching Forward in Unity”

Description: Beginning at Denny’s and concluding at Veterans Memorial Park, the march symbolizes our collective commitment to justice, equality, and community action — echoing the footsteps of generations who marched before us.

Location:  Start: Denny’s Parking Lot,  Route:  East Fry Blvd, End: Veterans Memorial Park

Event/Activity:  MLK Program “The Beloved Community in Action”

Description: A powerful community program featuring speakers, music, reflection, and celebration — closing the 10 Days of Service by recommitting ourselves to Dr. King’s call for justice, service, and shared humanity.
